These dolls received world wide acclaim during the Mejji period when they were exhibited at the Paris World Fair and other international expositions. These representative dolls of Japan became known as "Hakata" Dolls. My husband was in the Navy from 1950 to 1970 and was stationed in Japan part of that time. Since he has passed on I can't ask him what year or years that he bought the Hakata Dolls and had them shipped back to America. I will be listing several over the next week or so. This one is a LADY SEWING. If you collect them I do not need to go into their purpose in life which was to show the different people of Japan, their occupations and what they looked like. They are a long time tradition in Japan. This particular one is a Fisherman. She measures 8 inches wide by 7 inches tall. She is in excellent condition without chips or cracks. Paint is very good and very ornate. Buyer pays shipping. I will invoice pay pal at the end of the auction. Always from a smoke free home.
