These are very nice vintage gilded brass bookends, very heavy at 8 pounds the pair and measuring 4 inches high by as long. I have never seen them before in over 19 years of collecting bookends and do not know their maker or exact age. They are unsigned but very art deco in style. They show the classic Pieta statue, the one in Rome designed by Michelangelo. A representation of the Madonna with Child. The mother figure, robed and gowned, leans tenderly over an infant in swaddling cloths, a look of devotion and love on her fact. A beautiful set and unusual.
