Here's a fabulous instrument that with a little TLC will make a perfect gigging instrument for a Uke enthusiast. It will need a new head fitting and a set up as well as new strings too I reckon. SO IS SOLD AS A PROJECT NEEDING PROFESSIONAL WORK! It was sold as been 1920s or 30s, Chicago made and of been a decent quality Uke. It's not a Gibson but they cost big money. It has a nice warm sound and a detachable resonator on the back. I actually prefer it without. It's not as loud and fast strums get lost but overall it's very sweet. I bought this at Authentic Guitars ( /index.htm ) in Virginia, US in October 2010. Funnily when I got back from the US on that trip I stayed with my wife's grandparents in Worthing and the next day went to Guitar Junction and they had the same Uke for sale and fully set up. They wanted £400 for it. It needed some work. The head didn't fit right around the hoop and was at a funny angle. Also the material was so shiny the bridge would move easily. My repair chap in Leeds put a new goatskin head on, did a new bridge, fitted a pickup I supplied and set it up which cost about £85. The pickup is a passive one. Works well in an amp. Sound OK plugged into a PA but probably best with an active DI box to boost the signal. Beringer do one for about £25. I only ever used it on about 10 gigs (about three Uke songs
