ELEGANT CRYSTAL VINTAGE OLD BLENKO STUDIO ART GLASS VASE STUDIO ART GLASS BLENKO GLASS VINTAGE BLENKO 17" TALL 1 GALLON BLUE ART GLASS PITCHER GORGEOUS ART DECO STYLE Beautiful vintage Blenko Eames Era DOES HAVE A COUPLE BUBBLES FROM BEING HAND BLOWN NO CRACKS OR CHIPS MEASURES 6 3/4" x 16 7/8" TALL ~ HOLDS 1 GALLON HISTORY: In 1983 an Englishman by the name of William J. Blenko established the humble beginning of The Blenko Glass Company in Kokomo, Indiana. He came to the United States with an ambitious aspiration to become the first U.S. Glass house to produce hand blown antique sheet glass for stained glass windows to rival European glass houses. The first factory closed in 1903 due to the economic down turn in America during that time period. Starting in 1909 he attempted to establish two other factories, but with no success. Eventually, in 1919 after working for other glass factories he found gainful employment with New York's Tiffany's. In 1921 his aspirations to establish himself as America's prominent antique sheet glass maker he moved to Milton, West Virginia. He operated the business as the sole glass blower and salesman in the beginning and this is where he developed the technique of producing a ruby red sheet glass that would not change colors when it was painted and fired. After many years of trying he was overwhelmed with what he had accomplished and threw his hands in the air and shouted �Eureka, I've found it!�. This discovery inspired the original name for the Milton, West Virginia factory as the Eureka Glass Company. In 1923 his son William H. Blenko Sr. and his wife Marion [William Jr., 2 yrs. old] joined forces with his father and brought with him his creative sensibility for business and sales. The direction of William Blenko Sr. would lead to many successes for the company. In 1927 the company was awarded a contract to provide antique sheet glass for the Liverpool Cathedral to mention one notable event in the company's growth. In 1929 like many other businesses operating during this time period struggled to stay in business due to the Depression era in the U.S.. This time period would prove to be a pivoting turning point for the future of The Blenko Glass Company. The company's decline in sales would force William Sr. to seek other opportunities to grow the business. He solicited contract work with Carbone, a Boston importer who were importing glass vases from Venice, Italy. They awarded The Blenko Glass Co. the contract for obvious reasons, to save money. But, the company still faced another challenge. Who would produce these glass vessels for the company? On his return to Milton he hired two Swedish glass workers, Aexel Mueller and Louie Miller part-time who were highly skilled in producing hand blown stemware. The quality and creativity set by Mueller and Miller set the manufacturing standard for the Blenko craftsmen that would come after them. The hand blown tableware would become the staple product of The Blenko Glass Company for over 100 years. The company continued growth under the vision and leadership of William Sr.. In 1933 he negotiated a contract with the Rockefeller family when it was being excavated to be the exclusive manufacturer for the Colonial Williamsburg glass line. It was the fore mentioned creative and innovative ideas that would foster the success for the finest quality hand blown tableware, Blenko Handcraft in American glass history.
