On offer is a lovely vintage perfume bottle holder (no perfume is included in this auction) from the range by La Corbeille Royale based in Paris and Bruxelles (Brussels). I think this dates from the 1930s/40s but I cannot be sure so please take a good look at the pictures to confirm the exact age for yourself. The perfume that was contained in this was called "MAIL COACH" and I have found a picture of the holder and perfume on the internet (www.les-parfums.info).The company first launched its range of fragrances in 1860. In addition to perfumes they produced perfumed soaps, cosmetics, skin care and other toilet requisites. They reached the height of their popularity in the 1910 - 1920 period and they continued producing new fragrances until at least the end of the 1920s - and maybe later. The "Mail Coach" perfume was was one their last ones to be made but I don't know what year it was launched.The beautiful ivory colour coach is intricately decorated with raised relief patterning. The wheels turn on the axles and the roof of the coach lifts off so that a perfume bottle can be sat inside the coach. The neck of the bottle would have fitted into the hole in the roof and the screw top sat on top of the roof thus holding the bottle of fragrance in place. The two plumed horses are well detailed having expressive faces and textured manes. They move in their harnesses and the fixing bar attaching the horses to the coach allows the horses to move from side to side. There is so much on this delicate little holder that could have broken and yet it is still intact after all these years.The measurements of the item are as follows:Outer box approximately 14cm x 8.5cm x 6cmOverall length of coach & horses - 13cmCoach approximately 8cm long x 5.5cm high. Width across back wheels approx 4cmHorses 4cm high x 4cm longThe perfume holder comes in the original box with the manufacturers black & gold name label at the front. Inside the box is a sprig of plastic Lily of the Valley flowers stapled to the cardboard insert. The base of the box is a little tatty as the pictures show with bumped and rubbed corners and edges. The clear plastic lid is a bit crumpled/creased and has the side seams lifting from dried out glue but overall it is still in nice condition. It has one tiny corner split and a small split from creasing across the back. It is certainly not perfect and does have some surface marking commensurate with age and use.Despite the faults with the packaging this is a really lovely vintage item and the perfume holder is without damage. It still displays well and will make a wonderful addtion to any collection. !!!Please scroll to the bottom of the page to see all the pictures!!!
