vintage KEUFFEL & ESSER Co.,N.Y. Solid Bronze Transit Compass/Level Scope enclosed in a leather case! This appears to be in very good used condition. The scope is 6" long x 13/16" square tube diameter.I could not get a good angle to take a photo of the compass,so I took a few to show different details. The compass needle spins freely and needle locks in place, will need cleaning and possible calibration as it has been setting for a long time without use. When I look through the lens,I can see one crosshair and another that is not connected at the center. All of the parts move as they are supposed to and there are no breaks in any glass. The bubble levels work well.- there is a leather case that holds all this equipment - a very portable and classic brass beauty. email questions - I am not entirely sure of all the functions of this tool. apprx. 6" long and 2.5" wide - adapter brass piece in a small case on strap of leather case. rareWhat you have is called a Miners Abney level. Looking at my information it was first introduced in 1909 and only ran to 1915. The level itself is not all that rare I have seen a few over the last year. The condition is good.
