This is in great condition for its "age". It is 16 inches from top of handle to bottom of jug and is approx. 10 inches in diameter. Porcelain Interior- White porcelain enamel-on-steel interior is acid-resisting and easy to clean. Patented Stopper- Air intake valve allows free pouring at faucet without temperature loss that results from removing a stopper. Easy to operate-merely use lever to tighten or loosen stopper. The patented, adjustable stopper is a special, exclusive feature that helps hold temperatures steady. Heavy rubber gasket in stopper expands when lever is tightened, providing positive seal. On this jug it says J.C. Higgins, and only sold at Sears Roebuck & Co.J.C. Higgins: 1908-1964Many people ask if there was a real "J.C. Higgins" who worked for Sears. There certainly was. John Higgins began working for Sears in 1898 as the manager of the headquarters' office bookkeepers and retired as company comptroller in 1930. "John Higgins" the employee became "J.C. Higgins" the brand name during a discussion in 1908 among Sears' executives of possible names for a new line of sporting goods. At this point, the story gets a bit murky, but Higgins' name was suggested and John Higgins consented to Sears use his name.
