Description is as follows: Nice old timer 1⁄2 liter heavy thick clear glass stein with 4 tapered ribs situated equidistant around the body and it is 7 inches tall. It is marked on the bottom with an S & G inside a crown âe" possibly for Gille & Sohn. The lid is pewter with a green glass insert that has been hand painted and fired so the paint does not come off. This design is of an edelweiss flower, a hops bud and a head of wheat - all very important in certain brewing recipes. On the front edge a name is engraved in script âe" M. Vogel. The thumblift is plain but well done and both it and the rest of the pewter all have a very nice patina on them. The underside of the pewter lid is also marked with the manufacturers mark âe" G. Hugel. All indications are that this was most likely for a man and came with another stein very similar to this one only more ornate with a blue insert âe" see my other auctions âe" as a pair or set probably owned at one time by a married read more
