Here we have what we think is a rare and unusual late 1950's or early 1960's vintage Celestion G12S 20 Watt Pre Rola Pulsonic Guitar Speaker in its original cabinet made by the German company Siemans. Celestion released a version of the popular G12 guitar loudspeaker called the G12M back in the 1960s. With its medium-weight magnet this speaker had a tone that was silky smooth and warm, while still retaining the brightness and punch necessary to cut through the rest of the band. The Greenback, as it is nicknamed today, was also a highly articulate speaker, perfect for the pioneering lead guitarists of the time, a classic had been born. Over subsequent years, the Greenback evolved and was indeed reproduced in more recent years to its original specifications. The G12M (as it is now) remains popular with guitarists and amp manufacturers to this day although as the speaker developed its tonal characteristics were thought to have moved away from those of the original '60s model. This original 12 inch 20 Watt speaker is in really nice clean condition with no tears or rips in the fabric. The Siemans cabinet is clean and tidy with pretty good fabric covering considering its age although there are some slight scuffs and minor marks as might be expected (see pictures for condition). The brightwork on the cabinet fixings like the front grille, hinges and clasps are all in good order, slightly pitted with age but certainly cleaned and polshed. Although not in any of the pictures we do have a substantial length of cable which is part of this and a picture showing this will be added later. The legendary Celestion pre-Rola G12S greenback rated at 20 watts, 15 ohms and 75 HZ base resonance. We can't see any stamped numbers on the chassis (Just 'Made In England) but we think the speaker is a model T1440 as this is stamped on the cork speaker gasket. Sorry we can't identify the actual date code but this might be 6JM?? (also stamped on the cork gasket). We have tried to take a picture of this. As far as we can see the speaker cone code is SP 444 (shown in white paint on the inside of the black speaker cone. We are not experts here, we have just tried to find out as much as we could about this and write it here for anyone who might find this vintage classic of some interest. The experts out there might be able to clarify some of these points so please feel free to pass on any clarification. The cabinet size is approximately 18'' X 18'' X 10''. The rear door opens on its hinges and has a black elastic strap attached to it. We think this originally held a foam pad that was glued to the inside of the rear door but we are not sure (this guess is only based on some glue marks we can see). There is a small angled cut in one of the lower corners of the door which is for the cable to come through the cabinet.I have a few amps for my own use but this is just something we have recently unearthed on our travels and may be of some interest to a fellow guitar player of collector of older vintage amps etc. Sorry, we are not able to test the speaker but have no reason to think there is any issue with it as it basically looks quite pristine.
