THIS RUG IS 100% AUTHENTIC AND IS ONE OF A KIND!THIS TYPE OF RUG IS CALLED A MERGHOUM. THIS RUG WAS MADE UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE TUNISIAN GOVERNMENT AS A COTTAGE INDUSTRY. THIS RUG WAS INSPECTED AND AND CERTIFIED WITH A GOVERNMENT TAGGED LABEL "FINEST QUALITY". THIS RUG IS HAND KNOTTED AND IS ONE OF THOSE RARE RUGS UP FOR BID.THESE RUGS HAVE SOLD FOR $1,500.00 AND UP! !These carpets and rugs were hand selected, purchased between 1985 and 1987 and shipped from Tunisia, North Africa to Los Angeles, California and eventually shipped to Oregon. They were marketed through various rug, carpet, furniture and home furnishing dealers.The Kilim carpet is a double sided flat weave carpet hand made by the Berber tribespeople in and around the Atlas mountains in Tunisia, North Africa. Each region Gafa, El Jem, Sidibou Said, Tunis, Hammamet, etc. has different, but similar design features on the carpets, but no two carpets are alike. They are highly individualized.The Merghoum Carpet is a thicker one sided carpet and was made under the auspices of the Tunisian government as a cottage industry. Each one of these carpets has the official government certification stitched on the backside of each carpet. They are made in the region of Kairouan, Tunisia.
