This necklace has a centerpiece that I believe is an antique Chinese Pi carving. I haven't seen one of these in many, many years. It's about 2 1/4 inches across, has a raised border and has carving on it's face and back. Chinese Pi symbolize heaven and eternity. On its face are two bats, one is an old Chinese silver piece; the other is a carved carnelian or other similar stone. In Chinese lore, bats represent happiness and good fortune. The beads are graduated and begin with large carved serpentine or jade and they are 20mm, then carved carnelian, then beautiful old, REAL (not chalk) Chinese turquoise carved beads---so hard to find now---then more beads of the same. The overall length is 18 inches. If you're not familiar with this type of knotting, most one-of-a-kind, high-end necklaces at Saks and Neiman Marcus are fashioned this way. It is a time-consuming process and thus is only used on more expensive necklaces. My friend, for whom I'm selling this necklace, has piles and piles of jewelry, bought most of her necklaces at Saks, Neiman's, museum shops, antique stores, etc. and paid from $350 up to $1500 for them.
