You are bidding on an vintage Chinese Ume (plum blossom) Jade Tree made of ornamental stone in an enameled Champleve pot as featured in the March 2008 issue of Martha Stewart's Living magazine. Ume trees, or plum blossom, are well loved and celebrated in China, Japan, and Vietnam for their beauty, medicinal purposes, and symbolize resilience and perserverance as they bloom in the cold of winter. This gorgeous, petite bonsai tree was hand-made sometime between 1920-40. The pre-WWII trees are particularly collectible and hard to find. It has been in storage until recently. Each leaf and petal was carved by hand, each thread was wrapped by hand, and each piece was assembled by hand. The craftmanship is truly remarkable. The leaves are carved from ornamental white stone. The branches and stems are in excellent condition and covered in silk-wrapped wire, which allows you to arrange it as desired. The area at the top of the pot is covered in chips of decorative stone to resemble soil. The tree measures approx. 6"H x 7"W, and the pot measures approx. 3" diameter. Condition is excellent with no missing flowers, buds, or leaves that I can find. T are no chips on the petals, as shown in the close-up photo, and the wires are tightly strung.
