A wonderful Civil War era drum and ONE original drum stick was found locally in a small Ohio town attic. The home had been in the family for generations. The current f amily member living in the home was going to assisted care. She told us the drum had been in the attic since Grandfather's day and he told them it was from the Civil War. There are no markings on it that we can find. The drum measures 16 inches high and 17 inches in diameter. The side of the drum is medium to dark brown bent wood in a tiger-like pattern. The top and bottom is made of some type of dried skin. The top and bottom of the drum is held together by a hemp rope threaded through series of holes on bentwood top and bottom bands and secured with leather clasps, some of which have fallen off. The top is somewhat warped. It is in as-found condition. We wanted to leave it original and undisturbed.
