Vintage Daniel Boone Trail Highway Marker, 1920s-1930s, cast iron w/traces of red paint in recesses, one of 358 such plaques placed along the Boone Trail Highway which stretched from Virginia Beach to San Francisco, here Alonzo Chappel's famous 1861 painting of Boone has been translated into iron, some of which was reputedly salvaged from the wreck of the U.S.S. Maine 21"h x 15"w the Boone Trail Highway was the Brainchild of Mocksville, NC's J. Hampton Rich, most of his markers have long since been lost or destroyed completely intact w/weathering as expected
