Great Dreher Beer sign is white, red and black enamel over tin. T are some use and age marks on the edge of the sign but no damage on the face. 21.5" inches square. T are three mounting holes on the sign. Marked "ARS NOVA MILANO" this sign came from Milan, Italy all the way to the historic Pullman district of Chicago to spend its life in the Lucky Lady Saloon. The bar is visible in the picture. This working class neighborhood is famous for the Pullman Works and the birthplace of unionized labor. The Lucky Lady supported many a family in Pullman and was a great place to eat, meet and greet. This sign is part of that history. You can see the bar in the photo. Its history is below: The historic " Lucky Lady Pub " in Chicago's Pullman district was built in 1909 by the Schlitz Brewing Co. to be a self serving saloon for the local booming working class community, along with several others that still remain in the Chicago area. Then along comes prohibition 1920 and " The Lucky Lady " is shall we say, sort of taking some hard earned time off, Chicago style. Prohibition ends it's 1933 ( if those walls could talk ), and Schlitz wants to renovate the Lady and orders a magnificent solid mahogany 31' long Art Deco bar from Brunswick Balke Collender we are told, although we cannot find a label or plate.
