This vintage Elgin American sterling compact is 2 3/4" square. Goldtone leaves are etched on 2 bands on the top. The mirror needs to be replaced. There is no indication that powder was ever in the compartment or that the puff was used. Marked on the inner hinge "Elgin American, Made in U.S.A., Sterling". The catch works. Needs some buffing of minor scratches. Net weight (minus mirror and material is 2.68 oz.
