This listing is for the print "Ophelia" by Edward Wadsworth printed in Image 5 in 1950. The wood engraving was cut in 1898 as the Frontispiece for Moralite Legendaires published by Eragne Press.. This print measure approximately 113mm by 186mm. The illustration is a scan of the item listed. This print is provided unmounted. The use of colour and style for a mounting board has a great effect on the appearance of a print and is very much a personnal choice. In common with other prints from this collection, there is another image or letterpress text on the reverse. In 1950 Robert Harling (editor) and Art and Technics Ltd (the publishers of the Image series) persuaded Mr Thomas Balston to research and write a discourse on 20th century English wood engraving produced prior to 1950. As part of this effort Mr Balston selected a collection of wood engravings (and a few woodcuts) which probably represent the liveliest gallery of such items available at that time. This collection includes work by Eric Gill, Eric Ravilious, Gordon Craig, Robert Gibbings and many other contemporary artists. Copies of Image No.5 are now very scarce and they have become a real collector's item. Whenever a copy has been listed recently on eBay it has always attracted much interest.
