This is a beautiful ,old, vintage, hand made full size Stainer violin. I say it is hand made because of the fine craft manship on the whole instrument. For example, one can feel the carved ribs on the back plates, the inlaid perfling is maticulous, and the scroll work is superb. This violin has a highly flamed two piece carved back, a medium grained spruce top, inlaid perfling, ebony finger board, ebony pegs, and tailpiece. One tuning peg does not match, however, they all seem to hold on tightly. The violin measures 23 and 1/2 inches, and the main body measures 14 inches in length.T are some repaired cracks on the top plates. One smaller one on the left of the tail piece, and a longer one on the right side. T is another one on the top part of the right ff hole. These cracks are solid and sealed. As you put pressure on them, they do not budge. T IS a LABEL that says JACOBUS STAINER, ABSAM PROPE OENIPONTUM 16-- The date on the label shows what seems to be 16-- because the label is torn w the whole date should be. The label looks old and seems original. I have seem Stainers before, but usually they just have the word Stainer stamped on the back, and no label. It might be significant that this one has both? Maybe some of you know, I don't. Also , as you can see ON THE PICTURES, the word Stainer is stamped on the upper back. The finish read more
