Vintage Fragonard Dancing Couple 50 Year old Porcelaines Limoges Castel Hand-painted Ewer (Pitcher)Own a piece of post WWI French porcelain. The Fragonard Porcelaines Limoges Castel company existed between 1944 and 1963 before it was purchased by Havilan, SA. The pitcher stands 8 ½ inches tall to the handle and about 4 ½" at its widest point. The base color is rose colored with gold gilt porcelain. The main picture is that of an 18 th century young couple dancing in a garden setting. The bottom of the picture is signed "Fragonard."Jean-Honore' Fragonard was an 18 th century artist (1732-1806). One of the most prolific artists active in the last decades of the Ancien Régime , Fragonard produced more than 550 paintings (not counting drawings and etchings ), of which only five are dated. Among his most popular works are genre paintings conveying an atmosphere of intimacy and veiled eroticism . For half a century or more he was so completely ignored that Lübke in his History of Art (1873) omits the very mention of his name.
