This is a very early Frank Mossberg socket wrench set in a wood case. Most Mossberg sets, if they have a screwdriver, have a double ended offset screwdriver, but the earliest sets had separate bits which fit into a hole in the end of the extension. This wood case has the two holes for screwdriver bits (no bits included) and the 9 1/4" long extension with this set is probably the original, it has the slender design of the early extensions, and has the hole for screwdriver bits and the flat spring for keeping sockets in place, although the flat spring itself is missing, and there some wrench marks on the shaft, see photo. Later extensions starting around 1917 used the more familiar spring ball. The case is worn, and the outside left end is charred, must have been rescued from a fire a long time ago, has no char odor. The case is 13" wide by 6 1/2" deep by 2 3/4" high. There are 20 hexagonal stamped steel sockets ranging in size from 11/32" up to 1 9/32". There are 9 square sockets from 13/32" up to 1 1/32". The 19/32" square socket is cracked at the nut end which may show in pictures. No other sockets are cracked. The set has the Mossberg #355 ratchet, and the previously mentioned extension.
