Vintage Gretsch round badge snare 5.5" x 14" 1960's power snares This auction is for a vintage, 1960's, 5.5" x 14" round badge Gretsch snare drum. This snare was purchased at a garage sale from the original owner a few years ago. He purchased the snare new in the 60's. I restore drums as a hobby and I bought this as a restoration project. The original silver sparkle wrap was stained and falling off the shell. I replaced the old worn wrap with a new White Satin Flame wrap from Precision Drum Shop. There was also some rust on a few of the steel pieces including the tone control. I went over those pieces with extra fine steel wool and polished them up with some car wax and that did the trick. Generally, the shell was in great shape. I only had to repair a small spot on the inside of the shell where the tone control is. I patched that spot with Dap Plastic Wood and sanded it (as seen in the photo). There is some light pitting on some of the chrome which can be expected with a snare of this age. I cleaned up most of it, but you can see it in some spots. I included close-up photos of a few spots. I went over all the chrome pieces and cleaned them up with a Bon-Ami/Dawn Dishsoap solution which I then polished with Maguier's car wax. That really made the chrome shine. It's very reflective.
