This is a vintage Stanley Bailey No. 5 Iron Corrugated Jack Plane in very nice condition. It is the kidney cap style, with Stanley stamped on the cap, and the lateral control arm, and Bailey raised across the nose ahead of the knob. Japaning is at 90 to 95 percent, and metal surfaces are sound, with some minor staining. Only minor pitting exists along the rear upper edge of one cheek. The frog is cast and in good condition, and all parts operate smoothly. The cutting iron and lateral lever are more tarnished than the rest of the tool, but the iron retains its sharp edge. T are paint flecks on the bridge ahead of the mouth, and some light scratching from wood shavings. The handle and knob appear matched and the wood may be mahogany or even walnut. The top of the tote has been retouched with paint by a former owner, otherwise this tool is in good condition. "Stanley" and "Made in USA" are stamped on the back of the cutter/iron.
