This sale is for one Unique New Hand Made Afghani Tribal Gypsy Jew Turkoman Earring Ecclectic Necklace with Modern Beaded Chain Ethnic Jewelry This necklace is put together from several peices of jewelry. There are a pair of earrings, a breastplate and a pendant arranged to produce a one of a kind necklace on a red, patterned, rope of beads. The rope is long enough to go over the head and needs no clasp. The red beads match the stones placed in the coin silver of the individual parts that make up this peice. The beautiful pieces of Kuchi Jewelry originally came from the nomadic Pashtoon tribes that wandered the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan, along ancient routes between the seasons, moving down from the mountains in the winter and back to their homes in summer. The word Kuchi is derived from the Persian word meaning migration, in relation to nomads or gypsies, and does not describe a particular group or people, burt rather a state of being. Many different peoples or tribes from these areas have been classified as Kuchi but the original migratory nomads of the Afghanistan and Pakistan area are the Pashtoon. The jewelry of these wandering peoples inorporates design elements from many cultures including those of India, the Middle East, Central Asia and the tribal areas of the former Soviet Union. These jewelry artists used coins, bells, and large colorful glass jewels to produce lovely chokers, necklaces, cuff bracelets, hair clips, ornamental headdresses, pendants, belts, chains, rings and earrings completely by hand, often in centuries old designs. These peices sometimes incorporate bead work or embroidery. Kuchi jewelry, like the jewelry of India and other tribal places and peoples, often uses natural resources. The metal they forge comes from old melted down coins alloys which can include nickle, copper, brass, and silver. Using ancient techniques they then produce what is known as "pot", "tribal", or "coin" silver. The resulting metal is then oftentimes silver plated. Especially the bells. The jewelry was traditionally used heavily during a young girls wedding. If she had a substantial amount of jewelry she had wealth because the jewelry was part of the young girls dowery. More recently it is sewn in men and womens clothing and in the west used as bellydancing attire. Please note that these are authentic, original, handmade, vintage items which have undergone both time and nomadic travel. The items have come over mountains and through deserts as they were collected and many have markings from their journey. The jewelry may be in need of cleaning or small repairs. A "pair" of barettes or earrings may have small inconsistancies and stand as originals on their own, but usually have enough similarities to be considered a pair. With items of this sort, missing, twisted, or mismatched dangles or bits of glass, differing metal colors or parts are expected and are considered unique to the particular peice. They are not cookie cutter exacts. These individual anomolies are par for the course when purchasing handmade items and are not considered flaws but rather part of the positive overall originality of the item and they do not affect the desirability or value of it.
