Up for auction is my old, my very old Hohner Harmonica. This one is "The Hohnerband" and is in the key of C. I have been researching these and it is notoriously difficult to date them, but from the information available on the interweb this would appear to be a pre WWII model. This is based on the t rade mark which has a stamped 6 pointed star per pic 2, legend has it that the star was removed (and never replaced) as it resembled the Star of David and was considered risky to have as a trademark in Germany under Nazi rule. The plate covers are pinned in place by 2 rounded interlocking tabs on each end (pic 6). It also has brass plates. So, how does this old lady sound ? Classy and bright ! The bass is lovely and chorussy, mid and high are crisp and punchy ! Condition is ...well, 70 years old !! It is in good condition but as you can see from the metal there is a bit of pitting. The box bottom is good, you can see the mesh 'hinge' and the top of the front left and right corners have split. A really nice touch is in the last pic...is it the price ? 14/6 as in 14 shillings and 6pence ? sounds like a years wages from waybackwhen...any contributions welcome ! Please note that I am no expert on Harmonica's and have simply googlized the information and come to the conclusion that this is a pre WWII model. Hopefully the pictures are good read more
