Hello, thanks for the visit. Up today is a vintage stool by the Uhl Art Steel Company, out of Toledo Ohio, known later as The Toledo Steel Furniture Co. No tags indicate this, however the traditional Uhl motif on the bracing as well as traditional Uhl construction are evident. Constructed of steel, with a plywood seat it is sturdy and sits level, although one leg seems to be a bit bent.(see foto) When found, it was very rusty, with hints of original black paint. Rust has been removed manually and entire piece has been sealed in a semi gloss to inhibit oxidation. Traces of paint and rust do however remain. Seat is original plywood. Two coats of paint and various splatters have been removed to show original surface, which has been sealed. In the middle of the seat the plywood has a small scrape in it, which could be sanded out although I chose not to. Two holes are also seen in the frame of the seat. At one time this stool may have had a back attached to it, although it is now long gone. Feet are not original. As is the case with many of these pieces, the crimped feet have failed and fallen off. Someone more resourceful than me has braised new feet to the legs and actually did a good job of matching the original look. Braising has been polished a bit as it was a bit dirty when found. Stool measures 28" high, with the seat being 14. read more
