" ENGINEERING DIRECTOR" are you one? ctob er 2008. Demolition work started in April 2009. These signs all come from the 1920's Tram sheds in Barnsley - home of the Barnsley & District Electric Omnibus company that eventually grew into Yorkshire Traction Bus Co. The site is now demolished for housing. The site itself - even now couldn't be better placed for a bus depot - but the new owners 'Stagecoach' are not only a Transport company - they are 'asset strippers' They bought the place to demolish and turn a profit at a huge cost to others in Heritage and employment. Poor Stagecoach! they themselves grow bigger and sooner or later will get noticed and swallowed up - probably by a foreign company. Where's the sense? The society we have created (by the very neglect of it) is now driven by greed not sense - that's why some absolute morons get rich! There are far too many 'mini Hitler's' - the megalomaniac types trying to live forever, bright driven, charismatic and deluded! Vintage? - well they are 1970/80's - Old? approx 35-40 years old. Not old in the 'big scheme of things' but that's not the point. For me, the point is knowing where things are from and imagining the people and the places and coming to an understanding of how important continuity and industry is. It has shown me over the years, in great clarity, why our society read more
