Up for auction is this 1965 GI Joe Jeep Combat Set with Trailer. Features authentic Jeep, detachable cargo trailer,tripod mounted 106 mm. recoilless rifle and tripod mounted searchlight. The Jeep measures 21" in length; Trailer is 17",( making a total of 38"). Jeep features one star and is marked "GI JOE 7000" on the sides of hood. This authentically detailed combat set, which introduced the first action vehicle scaled for GI Joe, contained a copy of a real Army Jeep. The Five Star jeep was desighned to hold two Action Soldiers, one in each seat. There was even enough room for a gunner and signals operator. Realistic battle action features included a 106 mm. tripod-mounted recoilless rifle that could swing 360 degrees in azimuth, 45 degrees in elevation, and could actually fire one of two plastic anti-tank rocket projectiles. The rifle contained a rubber connection hose. There was even atripod-mounted , battery- operated searchlight. A morse code alphabeft diagram was listed on the backplate.The searchlight was mounted on a detachable quarter-ton equipment trailer which brought the jeep's total to measure a full 38 inches. Jeep features included heavy-duty tires and an adjustable windshield that raised and lowered to make room for the recoilless rifle. A spare tire was contained in this set.
