I picked them up at an Estate Sale and the thing that impressed me was the amount of Asian art and statues that were for sale. It told me these folks knew what they were buying when they bought it. I first thought they were Japanese but an EBayer wrote with the following: FYI: Whoever handled this estate auction misidentified these two. They are not Japanese, but Korean. The lady on the right wears the Korean classic women's garment, the Hanbok, with a typical jacket-like cover over it. Koreans have made this type of figure for a very long time, but these two are fairly modern. (The antique ones have more bows & bangles which some would consider overly ornate.) The Japanese did make dolls of similar cloth construction, but in a different style including what the Japanese call "round eyes," and quite different body proportions. Also, the Bradley Doll Company (Los Angeles, CA) had many dolls made in Korea in the same style, but always with western features and clothing. The Bradleys were very popular and a lot were sold, hence a lot on eBay. (The Bradleys were copied in turn by several small companies, some of lesser quality.)
