` Welcometo The Old Above I sell restored vintage lighting. What I love is bringing fixtures back to their original appearance. I don’t alter them, add parts, change the colors, or anything. I’m very pleased to offer this very sweet, petite, circa-1950 ceiling fixture! The fixture is not large (not quite 8-inches high, and 9-wide). It’s ideal for over a kitchen sink, or in a small foyer or powder room. The metal components are aluminum, and most of this has a brass-like finish. The underside of the metal shade is white. The glass shade is wonderfully, richly textured. The fixture is nicely original and even retains its original mounting nuts. PLEASE NOTE: Incredibly, I have three more! Wholly restored and with a new socket and wiring, this fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed! DETAILS : The fixture accepts one standard base 100W bulb. COLOR : Brass. White. SIZE : See above. CONDITION : I love writing this: there’s no damage. The porcelain socket and wiring are new. The brass-like finish looks very good with but minor bits of loss and subtle irregularities of tone. The white finish also has small bits of loss. NOTE : After payment is received, I ship within 7 days. TIPS TO BUYING VINTAGE LIGHTS ON EBAY SCALE. I believe that scale is everything. If the vintage fixture you buy is too small (or large) for your room, it will not look right no matter how beautiful it is. A fixture that is, say, 12-inches wide was meant for a smaller bedroom or hall. A 16-inch wide fixture was meant for a normal size living/dining room. All this presupposes that you do not have a mansion! If so, you would need much larger fixtures. McMansions also have bigger rooms than most pre-WWII homes. STYLE. People that own, for example, a Colonial-Revival style home will naturally want Colonial-Revival style vintage fixtures. But a great many pre-WWII homes originally had fixtures quite different than one would imagine. I’ve been in classic bungalows with original Art Deco fixtures, and recently I toured a Foursquare with original Spanish-Revival lights. All these fixtures looked very well. I always recommend that people buy what they love no matter the style of their home. My last home was a large 1915 Colonial-Revival. I filled it full of 1950s fixtures. It worked. The fixtures gave the classic house an unexpected zest. It was also common for people to update their homes by changing all the lights. So, your 1905 home may well have had all the lights replaced in the 1920s or 1930s. If you had these lights in place you wouldn’t dream of taking them out. So, buy what you love. Just make sure the scale is right. RESALE VALUE. Recently a buyer contacted me. They restored a wonderful old home. All the original lights were long gone and they purchased very nice new fixtures in an old style. When they tried to sell the house there was no interest. For six months.
