Up for bid is a great German-style vintage beer stein with flip-up metal lid. The stein is brown/beige/navy blue with the crest of Luchow's, a legendary New York restaurant that was in operation from 1882-1982. It was known for its collection of over 200 beer steins. The stein has a relief rendering of a German house with "Auf der Alm" written below it. The other side has a man in hunting gear with a lady in Bavarian-style dress standing next to him (see photos). The side of the stein says "0.5L" which denotes that it holds a half liter of beer or other beverage. The bottom of the stein has the number 4 engraved in it and some lettering that is difficult to make out, but I think it says "Germany." The stein is 9 1/4" tall and 3 5/8" in diameter. The metal (may be pewter?) lid is engraved "Frank Eichler" and "Copper Club Alumni." The Copper Club was formed in 1944 by participants in the copper industry and they gave away many scholarships. Presumably this group met at Luchow's restaurant. The inside of the lid says "7312" and "DRGM." The stein is in good condition, with no chips. The lid opens and closes well using the thumb tab. The handle of the stein is heavily engraved with a wood/vine-like design. It may have a slight crack in it, but I think it's just part of the design. Please see photos and judge for yourself.
