Quality Vintage & Collectible Items - Guaranteed 100% Original - No Reserve! You are bidding on a pair of McClelland Barclay penguin bookends from the 1930s. This charming set of two babies with a mother penguin stand 6'' tall and 8'' tall respectively. The flat back to hold books upright is approx. 5'' wide each. The rock base appears to be cast resin. The penguins themselves are finished bronze or possibly brass. Both pieces are signed in the lower right. The books in the photo are for reference purposes only and are not part of the auction. Each bookend weighs over 3 lbs with minor scratching and chipping as pictured. McClelland Barclay (1891 - 1942) was a versatile artist, illustrator, sculptor and jewelry designer who left an amazing body of work behind after his combat death in World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy as a battlefield illustrator.
