Vintage Menu 1959 Chesapeake Restaurant Baltimore, MD"Cut your steak with a fork...else tear up the check and walk out" This vintage tri-fold menu from 1959 features some great retro-graphics, black and white photos and promises of a hospital-like clean kitchen. Chesapeake was one of "America's Great Restaurants" with awards from Duncan Hines, Gourmet Magazine, Dartnell Corporation and the American Auto Association. This menu is in mint condition and comes in original manila envelope--never used, one lightly bent upper and lower corner and some age related discoloration. Menu measures (closed) 17" x 8 5/8".Cover features a gas lamp illustration. Opening the menu is a flap offering "A good start" including a Famous Mint Julep "In an iceberg" with a photo of the drink, for $1.50. A "V-e-r-y D-r-r-y" martini was 85 cents. "Appeteasers" included steamed soft clams "they make you reckless" from the Chesapeake Bay, small $1.75; large $3.00. A Hollywood Salad was 85 cents "from the land of fabulous salads". Opening this flap reveals the inside left page, featuring steaks (3 black and white photos w/ wine choices underneath each) "Blue Ribbon Sirloin" for the discriminating few who appreciate the very best in all things, 22 oz for one..no prices on most steaks.
