Vintage Micro-Mosaic Millefiori Oval Pin Beautifully designed with intricate millefiori, this oval pin is a wonderful example of micro-mosaic from Italy. It is exquisitely designed with pink and yellow flowers in an oval surrounded by white tiles. This is framed by red, white and sapphire blue tiles weaved into a gold rope design. The pin has a delicate rope scroll around the edges. It has a barrel pin back that is secure. Measures 1 1/4" by 1 3/4". All mosaic is intact, this is a real sparkler! Makes a beautiful holiday gift. Millefiori is a glasswork technique which produces distinctive decorative patterns on glassware. The term millefiori is a combination of the Italian words "mille" (thousand) and "fiori" (flowers). A. Pellatt (in his book "Curiosities of Glass Making") was the first to use the term "millefiori", which appeared in the Oxford Dictionary in 1849. The beads were called mosaic beads before that time. While the use of this technique long precedes the term millefiori, it is now frequently associated with Venetian glassware .< Shipping & Payment Options >U. S.A. buyers : Paypal is preferred.
