2" socket oval framing chisel by G I Mix, No 1 Extra, ca. late 19th c. Mix & Co made a variety of tools including bayonets earlier in the 19th c. A beautiful stout laminated tool in very good to near excellent overall condition. Extremely fine localized pitting about mid-sole. A couple of very small side dings. This is a nearly flawless specimen. Beautifully contoured, very subtle cant to sole, nearly flat. Flat milled sides. Blade 94% of full length at 7 1/2" to shoulder, 12 1/16" of steel, 17 3/16" oal. Very sharp. Steel hooped resto-mod hickory handle. Leather buffer has been milled with the handle to help absorb shock from the hoop and prevent it from splitting the end grain of the handle shoulder. An outstanding tool for the user and/or collector. See photos. Shipping always combined.
