Very rare find. These are my grandmother's old European earrings, circa 1930-1940s.Honey amber and melchior. Melchior is the alloy made mostly from copper, nickel and zinc, highly resistant to corrosion, dark silver color.1 3/4" long from the top of the wire, 3/4" wide.Excellent vintage condition, no problems. Warm patina from age.The invention of earrings are linked to the fear of the evil eye. Earrings are considered most effective when the ear has to be pierced to insert them. Only then are the evil spirits unable to enter the body through the ear. Amber is one of the most magical of all amulets, it is used both internally and externally for healing purposes.
