HISTORY The Ashley F. Ward Company, maker of the Nimrod lighter, was founded in 1908 as a screw products manufacturer. Ward was awarded a patent on the Nimrod Pipe Lighter in 1947. Ward sold about 1,000,000 Nimrod lighters per year in the 1960s. DESCRIPTION This is a vintage Nimrod Sportsman Pipeliter in its original box with its original instruction sheet. According to the previous owner, the lighter has never been out of its box. The wick is unburned, the instruction sheet looks new (except for some yellowing from age), and the box is in great shape. Based on the Nimrod Products Inc. address on the back of the instruction sheet, which states “Cincinnati 14”, this lighter was produced sometime in the period from about 1943, when the two-digit Postal Zone was introduced, to about 1963, when the five-digit Zone Improvement Plan (ZIP) Code was introduced. CONDITION This item is in AS-NEW CONDITION . The lighter comes in its original box with original instruction sheet. The lighter does not appear to have ever been used.
