This is one of a large collection of baskets that I will be selling off in the next few weeks. It is a vintage twined cradle basket from Northern California--a Klamath River type --Hupa, yurok, or Karok. The basket has damage, and I always intended to repair it or have it repaired. Most of these have broken handles from hanging, but this one has a nice intact handle/rim. The damage is to the wefts wraps that stabilize the long rods (most of the long rods are intact), so it would be easy to either reweave these wefts with split willow, or to stabilize the cradle with twine wefts. The damaged wefts are along both sides of the cradle near the handle end, and can be seen in the pictures. T is also a damaged sunscreen (often missing from these cradles). I pulled the screen ends together with some string for one of the pictures, to better show the extent of the damage to the sunscreen. Even with the damage described, this is a nice example of a Klamath River tribal cradle basket. It displays well as is and is crying out for what would be a rather simple repair job. Visible in the pictures are very old ribbon hanging loops (two on the cradle, and a piece of the same material on the sunscreen which no doubt attached the sunscreen to the cradle in the past. I'm sorry, I left out the dimensions. The cradle basket is 21" long x 9" wide x 3 read more
