The tiny bird is green with an orange-red belly and has splashes of black on both. The eye is white and the beak is goldleaf. The brooch measures 2 1/2" long and is in excellent condition--no chips, scratches etc.. The back has a "ball-catch" safety clasp and the signature pallet of Original by Robert. "Original by Robert" is the mark used by Fashioncraft Jewelry Company, which was founded in the 1942 in New York by Robert Levey, David Caffey and Irving Landman. They produced quality items and even supplied jewelry to the motion picture industry. Their rhinestone pieces are often confused with Miriam Haskell jewelry because of the similarity in designs and materials. OBR was known for its ability to use innovative materials to create style and beauty. They also produced a wide variety of enameled jewelry, ranging from pins to bracelets. The company ceased operations in 1979.
