Up for auction is a beautifully crafted sweetgrass basket woven by one of the skilled weavers of the Charleston, SC area. When you visit Charleston, you can still see the ladies selling their baskets of all shapes and sizes. This particular basket is oval in shape and has a pair of end handles formed by cleverly elongating and wrapping the last two coils on the rim. This would have been advertised as a fruit basket or a bread basket. Look at how nice the features are on this basket - it has bands of pine needle accents on the base, and pine needle accents on the rim. This attractive basket makes a beautiful piece for display or could still be used for its original purpose if desired. The basket is a nice size for one of this type, measuring 12½" x 8¼" across at the rim (handles included) and 2" deep. If you look carefully you can see a few tiny missing palmetto wraps throughout, but this is the only exception. There are no separated coils, or any serious damage. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket's condition. The basket is old enough that the palmetto wraps have lost their greenish color and begun to turn a golden brown with age. A beautiful American folk-art piece! Additional Notes: I will be happy to provide discounted shipping for multiple items. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions, and read more
