JOE RUST : Memories in paint! "Forgotten friends" I'm fascinated by once cherished objects now left abandoned to their fate. To think how that which was once someone's gleaming pride and joy could, with neglect and the passage of time, become little more than a lump of ferrous metal. To me pedal cars are a metaphor for childhood innocence, which is why I like to paint them. By the same token an abandoned pedal car may be seen as representing lost innocence. When I see an old toy as depicted here, I always wonder who owned it? Where are they now? What is their story? Over the passing years did they too perhaps collect as many of life's inevitable 'knocks and scrapes' as those that now adorn their old metal friend? Old things are not just 'junk' you see, they are a silent witnesses to another age. As a side note: I normally use Winsor and Newton artists quality oils for my paintings, but for this picture I have tried for the first time some of Michael Hardings professional quality oil paint. Should there be any fellow painters reading this I would highly recommend trying Harding's oil paint, I am so pleased with the clarity and luminosity of it that I shall use it exclusively from now on! 12 x 16 inches Oil on stretched canvas. This painting is offered at a low start price and with no reserve. PLEASE NOTE: The low start price read more
