I have collected Persian Tribal Rugs with LIONS for quite a number of years and am fortunate enough to have visited Iran before the revolution in 1979. I am not an expert or a dealer, but simply a collector down-sizing. I have had this rug for a number of years: it is not new and I know it has some age (I have had it more than 10 years). I have always believed that a rug needs to "speak" to you before acquiring it. Well, this rug is a real Lion-lovers dream: a beautiful, blue-faced, golden-maned, white LION surrounded by all a Lion could wish for. The red field is full of birds, flowers, deer and various other tribal images. In each of the 4 corners, a proud Lion stands guard. Check out the wide, interesting border as well. Measuring 48" by 72", this is a very common size for a tribal piece. Remember, these tribal pieces are woven on the ground, horizontally, and need to be rolled and transported when the tribes pack up and move to new pastures. No defects, smells or other faults to note. This rug looks to have never been used on the floor (certainly not as long as I have had it) and appears to be "as new"...although, as mentioned, it does have some age to it.
