"The Spratling of Peru " ... Florentine-born, Graziella Laffi lived in Peru during the 1950's, producing singular and stunning silver works in both modern and pre-Columbian forms. Most aficionados today believe that her creations rival the masterpieces that came out of Mexico , during its silver renaissance. This fabulous brooch pendant, with its traditional Inca fish motif executed in a stylized, cubist design, is handwrought in sterling silver. It depicts two applied silver, crescent-shaped fish "leaping" among the turbulent waves, which are represented in a pinwheel-style circular form. Laffi's trademark tool work adds wonderful dimension and detail, most especially the superb chasing in the "frothing" waves. The pinback is fitted with a secure rollover clasp and t is a generous hidden bail, so that the piece can be worn on a chain. Most impressive in size, weight, and design, the brooch pendant makes for spectacular wearable art, as well as a superb collectible for display. Hallmarks: G LAFFI , 925 , PERU . Size: 2-1/2" in diameter. Condition: Fine vintage condition, with a lovely, soft patina to the silver. SUGGESTED READING BEFORE BID!! NO WIRE HANGERS EVER!
