Vintage Plume & Atwood Oil lamp with unique safety burnerThis porcelain, glass and metal oil lamp has a unique burner patented in 1872 and 1873 and is similar to the Lambertson safety burner. Some of the unique features of this burner is the external filling spout (partially broken on this example) and the flame extinguisher. In this example it has the Phoenix weighted extinguisher.Touted as a safety device the weighted extinguisher would snuff out the flame if the lamp was tipped over.Advertisements of the day claimed:· The Lever Extinguisher - no need to blow out the flame anymore· The Safety Weight Extinguisher - shall extinguish the flame if the lamp is knocked over or dropped· The Filling Tube - no need to remove the burner to refill the lamp· The Safety Valve - the cap on the filler tube is designed as a blow-off cap in the event of pressure build-up in the fount· The Air Regulator - increased venting and airflow due to holes in the burner base· The Cone Deflector - nickle-plated deflectors increases light output· The Large Light - the burner gives a large, broad flameThis lamp hasn't been tested and is being sold as-is, as stated above the filler tube is partially broken and the prongs that hold the chimney are loose. The glass chimney is not original to this lamp.Buyer to pay shipping and handling, PayPal only.UPS shipping only. read more
