A spectacular VINTAGE Handpainted wall or decor Tile crafted in Portugal. Another spectacular example of detailed Portugese Art. The handpainted tile design depicts a Gladiator or Crusader (not sure which), blowing a horn and mounted on a horse. The period costume and horse adornments are intricately detailed. The design is a purplish - brown on an off white background. A flower motif accents each corner of the Tile. The upper designed area is glazed while the sides and underside remain unglazed ~ leading us to believe this might have been created as a scenic wall tile. As is common, there is evidence of several glazing skips and nicked edges. The reverse side has one small clay chip that would not be noticed with careful placement or adhesive mounting. There are no cracks or crazing found. As this is older and preowned, there may be slight blemishes that we didn't notice. Measures near 5 - 3/8" x 5 - 3/8" and the reverse side is marked.
