VINTAGE" WM. ROGERS SILVERPLATED PIE/PASTRY SERVER "NO RESERVE" Up for your bidding consideration is a vintage Wm. Rogers pie/pastry silverplated server with intricate and artistic rendering of what appears to be a commemorative of the USS Constitution in icy waters. The USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) was launched from Boston harbor in 1797. This beautiful pre 1900 antique server has the original display box covered in gold velvet, with satiny interior, and metal latch. The server and container are in excellent condition. On the back of this beautifully designed server, the " Wm Rogers " mark is surrounded by eagle and star marks . William Rogers (Wm. Rogers), born in 1820, was a master silversmith and a pioneer in the silverplate industry. Although variations of the "Wm. Rogers" mark were used for many generations in Connecticut and Massachusetts, they eventually joined other companies. It is known that the mark of " Wm. Rogers " with the star and eagle was used by Simpson, Hall, Miller and Company in 1878 . T is also a " 4" after the star - significance is unknown, but perhaps relating either to superior quality of the silverplating or a numbering system of items made.
