This item is a hands free cigarette lighter. This piece mounted on to the steering column and you filled it with cigarettes. When you needed one you just popped down the little bottom drawer and a cigarette fell into the holder and touched the part that was hot and lit up for you, ready to go. Now that is luxury! As you can see from the pictures there are two of these with the original boxes but one is broken and doesn't come with the mounting bracket. The one that is broken is just broke at the hinges where the lid attaches but every thing else looks intact. I thought maybe it could be used for parts for the other one if needed. The other lighter is in perfect shape and included in that box is the clamp ring, a tool for the clamp and an instruction sheet on how to install. The boxes are tattered from storage but over all in fair shape. I don't know the time period for these. I am guessing around the 1930's but its still a neat little accessory. I have not heard of these before but I hope it is something you are looking for. Thanks for looking and hopefully, bidding. Contact me if you need more pictures.I wanted to add one more thing and another picture. The broken one doesn't have the burning element on the end when you pull down the tray. I just noticed that today looking at the difference in the two. I apologize for not posting
