Many Older Patrons of Santa Fe were Involved in the Arts. The Local Jewelry Trade has always been unique to the Area. Turquoise from all over the southwestern states was brought to Santa Fe for cutting and for market. Many Older Patrons built elaborate collections of Rare Turquoise and also mixed materials from all over the World. In several of these Estates the Patrons were also Traders of these Items. With Amazing Native American Silver Smiths at they're doorsteps, history itself has been the guide to an amazing genre' of jewelry. Since most of these stones are from earlier times, they are natural. Which means they are not Stabilized or Infused with Resin to make them Hard and Glass Shiny. Stabilizing changes the color of the stones and the value then has been compromised. Turquoise has a history from Ancient Cultures of the America's to Today's Fashion Designs. T truly is no one color that says TURQUOISE. The colors of Turquoise very as much as the Mother Earth that Produced the "SKY STONE" Royston Turquoise Royston, also known as Royal Blue, was discovered in 1902, 24 miles northwest of Tonopah. By 1915, over $5,000,000 worth of turquoise was removed from this mine, thought to be the largest producer of a single turquoise mine in America. The Royston mine was an example of a tunnel mine. The host rock, rhyolite, gives Royston its often gold-colored matrix. The Royston district of Nevada is home to three turquoise mines: Bunker Hill, Oscar Wehrend, and Royal Blue, all of which are now exhausted. Royston turquoise is known for its beautiful colors ranging from deep green to rich light blues set off by a heavy brown matrix.
