VINTAGE WATERMARK DETECTOR STAMP COLLECTORS ~ PHILATELIC VINTAGE SCOTT'S WATERMARK DETECTOR BLACK GLASS BASIN As shown in pictures, this is 'old' black glass When held to a light it has a 'purple/violet' color Thus, it is ' BLACK AMETHYST GLASS' and it is in excellent condition - no chips, cracks, etc the bottom has shapes that are consistent with a pontil mark and therefore, this may be hand-blown glass It measures about 3" x 2" x .5" The box is worn in areas and has some darkening on the inside of the lid as shown in pictures It is, however, all intact without tears - just has the peeling of the old black paper on the cardboard Stamped Information on inside lid of box: STUDIO STAMP MART 6727 Hollywood Blvd Hollywood Granite 9264 According to on-line research: "In 1958, due to increased consumer demand for individual telephone numbers, the telephone company began phasing out old exchange names for all numeric telephone numbers" This specific phone number above was for: Los Angeles / Westwood Area GR GRanite 47 / and the phone number would have been ~ 47-9264 This information dates this piece prior to 1958 - THE BLACK AMETHYST GLASS, HOWEVER, GIVES AN INDICATION THIS IS PROBABLY OLDER ...
