This beautiful vintage Firemanâe(tm)s Helmet belonged to Fire Inspector Hale P. Yeary, from Engine No. 26 of the San Francisco Fire Department, Badge No. 505. (Mr. Yeary, I have been told, retired after 20 years of service with the San Francisco Fire Department.) Mr Yeary has artistically painted his name on the underneath side of the back rim along with his Badge Number. The helmet has a round metal tag inside it that reads, âeoeCAIRNS & BROTHER MFRS OF FIREMENS EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES NEW YORK.âe The label that would have had the size on it is missing, with only a very small piece of the upper left hand corner intact. The cloth liner is in excellent shape with no rips or tears and has a black cloth tag attached to it that says, âeoeCAIRNS SANITARY Cushion Lining PATENTED # 1575251.âe The helmet does not have eye protectors or a chin strap, as some other firemanâe(tm)s helmets do. It appears that the helmet was manufactured without them as it does not appear that they have been removed or broken off. This helmet has not been cleaned ~ only dusted ~ to attempt to remove some of grime that has accumulated on it in the garage w it has lived for years. It appears to have been well used, with scratches and stray white paint and t which adds character. The Rules and Regulations, Fire Department, City and County of San Francisco book depicts the âeoeRULES AND REGULATIONS governing the SAN FRANCISCO FIRE DEPARTMENT As adopted by The Board of Fire Commissioners Arthur J. Dolan JR., Walter H. Duane, William Kilpatrick, and William F. Murray, Chief of Department. Approved and Adopted May 28, 1957.âe This Rule Book No. 885 has obviously been well used by Fire Inspector Hale P. Yeary. While the leather binding has separated from the book itself, the pages are in good shape. In addition, t are single updated pages that have been tucked within the bookâe(tm)s pages as well as some pages with bent corners that are stapled together and placed at the back of the book. THIS book and helmet are AMAZING PIECES OF HISTORICAL MEMORABILIA that any SERIOUS COLLECTOR would be PROUD TO OWN and PROTECT for generations to come!!! This size 7 1⁄4 firemanâe(tm)s dress cap is labeled âeoeYeary Insp. 7 1⁄4, 3/8âe White Chin Strapâe. The Company name inside the cap is âeoeL. Rixnik & Son, 131 Tenth Street, San Francisco, Calif.âe Another tag inside the cap states that it is âeoeMADE OF 100% WOOL Exclusive of Ornamentation, Lancaster Uniform Cap Company, Los Angeles, Calif.âe One of the pictures show a label that says, âeoeThis cap is guaranteed to conform to S.F. Fire Dept. Specifications. Material is Metcalf 386-16 P & F.âe T are two small buttons on each side of the cap that have the initials S F on the top, F D on the bottom, and what appears to be an old fashioned fire engine in between (if my eyes serve me right as the raised picture is so small.) T is one spot on the cap w the wool is damaged. Other than that, the cap is in EXCELLENT shape but could stand being cleaned. The two posters are both the same. One poster has a tear on the left side at the fold and a small tear on the right side above the fold. The other poster has a tiny tear on the top. (ON A SIDE NOTE: My husband acquired these wonderful historical firemanâe(tm)s collectibles when he agreed to clean up a friendâe(tm)s property to get the house and garage ready to be rented out.)
