Signed Vintage 1940's Crown Trifari Solid Sterling Ruby Red Rhinestone Full Parure--"Alfred Philippe" Masterpiece/Bookpiece. Necklace, bracelet, and earrings. Remarkably, I have been fortunate enough to locate two of these sets over my many years of collecting. This rare, stunning parure dates from the 1940's. It was featured in an advertisement in Harper's Bazaar in February,1946 and now graces the cover of the more recent book, "Costume Jewelry: The Great Pretenders" by Kelly and Schiffer. It is one of the Great Pretenders referenced, in that it was designed to replace the real gemstone jewelry of the pre-WWII era with Austrian crystal rhinestones set in sterling silver. The color is undeniably a deep, vibrant ruby red. The base metal is rhodium plated. The rhinestones are faceted and cushion cut. The necklace, with a fold over clasp, is 15 1/2" long x 3/4" wide, with a double row of open backed, ruby red stones set off by a small white rhinestone at regular intervals between the rows. The matching bracelet is 7 1/5" long. The matching, floral-themed clip earrings are 7/8" in diameter. The pieces are all marked as Crown Trifari. All rhinestones are present and sparkling, prong set in sterling silver. This fabulous, substantial set is truly an example of the best that vintage costume jewelry has to offer.
